For this assignment I have chosen the quotation from J.K. Rowling which reads “It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live.”
I have interpreted this quotation to mean that whilst one is studying or following some other vocation, in other words planning ones future, do not forget the pleasures in life. There has been many times in my life when I have concentrated on working and keeping my family together and paying the mortgage that I have forgotten entirely how to enjoys frivolous things, having a drink with friends for instance or when I was younger enjoying the local fair.
When I was walking along Southport Pier this last weekend I noticed a carousel. The old fashioned type with horses. For a moment I was transported back to younger days when I would have loved to have a go on one. This one wasn’t operating at that moment because of the time of day but never the less it afforded me the opportunity to capture a lost memory in an image (below):

For this image I wanted to get close in to capture the magic of the moment, the smile on the leading horsed head for example. I had to compose and recompose the scene several times to take into account the glare of the sun. I had to walk around the carousel several times to find a place where the glare was eliminated, but eventually I achieved the scene I was looking for and quite like the end result.
The settings for the camera were as follows: ISO 100: 1/80 second and exposure f/5.6
