Surprising what you find in cemeteries these days. How long had this little devil been there.

Here’s a closer look

Saw this on my way home today and thought it was a good subject for a photo

I’ve been working on some of the images from today. It took about five minutes but over the next few days I will devote more time on them in light room and see what I can come up with.

Selfie

For this assignment I have a few ideas. I have been thinking about having an image of myself looking out of a window with a glass of wine in my hand and the light coming from the window. Another variation would be to replace the window with a strobe and soft box and have a thin muslin type material between myself and the light source to project a different texture on my face.

I have been researching the subject of gobo’s and the effect they have on an image. The result is much like my previous idea with muslin but with a gobo there should be a more defined pattern on myself and the background.

With the original interpretation assignment I wanted to convey some degree of originality and lateral thought to the subjects.

With Re-interpretation I am still considering originality, but maybe not to the same level. I think this time I want to make the images more obvious as to what they may be.

Boat shallow dof

The boat image is just a boat with a shallow depth of field, as apposed to the original assignment when I used a gravy boat. This time I chose a real boat because it was far easier to demonstrate depth of field in a marina and I wanted to get away from the far out interpretations I sometimes use.

Things in a pile

Things in a pile.

With this image I have drawn inspiration from our critical and analytical studies with Jane Jones. We had recently been researching Roland Barthe and his essay “Death of the author” in which we discussed the meaning of an image. With the above image I could have just photographed a pile of coins, but I decided to add other elements to the picture to challenge the viewer to think about its meaning. In the picture there is nothing that should not be there, everything is a clue to what the photographer might have wanted to say.

A couple

This image is as the title suggests, a couple. They are a pair of small steel steel sculptures I bought from a blacksmith about thirty years ago. I quite like them and because they are black I decided to bring them into the studio and photograph them against a plain white background with no clutter to draw the viewer more easily to the subject.

———-

I spent Thursday afternoon at the interchange to get some photos for the blog but particularly another image for interpretations. I wanted to do something different for rush hour so I took a few images at slow shutter speed and layered them together to give the impression of rush. Below is the result.

The above image is also duplicated on the interpretation page.

Thanks for the idea Keith, I have done a bit of preliminary work on the multi colour urinal but there is some way to go yet in refining it. This is what I have so far.
