Presentation by Andi Dakin
Good presentation from Andi today. Inspiring and thought provoking. Andi illustrated what readymades are about and how to explore the genre. We need to form a liason or a bond with an object to enrirely understand its potential for becoming a readymade. An object needs to be looked at from all angles and it can be suprising how with a little imagination ideas will flow.
From my point of view he gave me some ideas on how I might utilise my gravy boat into a readymade. Also Andi suggested we might like to take our chosen objects to various locations to see if it can generate fresh ideas.
Readymade: found objects used out of context.
Assisted object: Much the same as above. Something taken away from normal associations.
Rectified Objects: Either vandalised or improved objects, whichever way it is viewed. As an example Andi showed a Marcel Duchamp image where the artist had drawn a moustache and a goatee beard on a replica of the Mona Lisa.
Specially Fabricated Objects: This is were a ready made is copied. “Air of Paris” originally a readymade by Duchamp was copied several times by the artist to accommodate occasional breakages. To all intents and purposes the same thing but copied.
